Kiran’s House

The house physically and psychologically remains our place of shelter and sanctuary.
The site was contoured.It was imperative for the land and the design that there was a reciprocal relationship. Hence it evolved without razing or flattening the land.

All levels have been utilized with due respect to the natural contour of the site , the land has been left untouched for natural landscaping . This allows the stucture to emerge from the land . The inherent sloped nature of the site is apparent in the planning...

The core has been designed to accommodate the living areas in a single level and the library,bar home theatre –leisure areas are in the lower level with a provision for separate entry , to protect the privacy of the inmates .

.The main living room has two linear courts on either sides creating a relief as well as enhancing privacy for the inmates.

Childrens study area is in a mezzanine level to get maximum privacy fresh air and light..

The main entry with an open sit out overlooks the water body and gives a panoramic view of the coconut garden which is landscaped and planted in a natural way. Exposed laterite wall and the arch frames the main door .

The central court yard is the welcoming space and it acts as an informal foyer...
